Nanotech and Society
Nanotechnology raises a host of technical obstacles that scientists, engineers, policymakers and others are attempting to overcome. But this new science also raises issues in other areas:
The acronym NEEELS and the designation NE3LS are commonly used to identify these five issues.
The Government of Canada recognizes that a balanced approach is needed to ensure the responsible introduction of nanotechnology-related applications into Canadian life and assessment of its potential benefits and possible risks. This approach will enable us to consider not only the scientific and technical challenges posed by nanotechnology, but also the economic, ethical, legal, social, health and environmental impacts of this new science.
